Topic: Map Your Data: Using MapPoint and Visual FoxPro together.
Speaker: STEPHEN BODNAR, GEEKS AND GURUS, INC., DETROIT MI, USA
Objective: To Explore Microsoft MapPoint and demonstrate how VFP Developers can incorporate this comprehensive mapping tool into VFP-based solutions. Demonstrations will include using MapPoint out of the box with VFP data, Automating MapPoint using Automation and using the MapPoint Control inside of a VFP application.
Description: As database application developers, we're often looking for ways to present data in a meaningful context. Microsoft MapPoint is an extremely data-aware mapping platform which allows us to extend our applications to provide common map-based tasks such as finding an address or plotting a route from point a to point b, as well as more sophisticated functionality such as answering questions like "Show me all of my customers within 60 miles of my regional office" or "show me a bar chart of last year's sales by quarter in each state." MapPoint even gives you the ability to look at your data in the context of census data. This session will take a look at the MapPoint product as it relates to VFP in three different ways: Out of the box : using the MapPoint UI to work with VFP and other data sources; Automation : using VFP to control the MapPoint application; and using the MapPoint ActiveX control : placing the ActiveX control on a VFP form and displaying or querying data inside a VFP application. We'll look at examples using VFP and MapPoint to plot routes, analyze "Drive Time Zones" and extract data by "territory."
Audience: Any VFP Developer
